A brilliant partnership. Monica Bern (GG, JDT, CAD/ CAM) and Michelle Ma (GD) first met at a jewelry store where Monica worked doing jewelry appraisals. Both had studied at GIA and knew about jewelry design and jewelry making, and both dreamed of channeling their creativity and passion for gems into a business of their own. Together, they launched Modern Mood Body Jewelry. This fun, trendy business specializes in wholesaling fine piercing jewelry to piercing studios around the world.
At work, their GIA education helps them to source and choose fine gems. Some of their favorites are opal, moonstone and diamonds. They also brainstorm designs together, with Monica using her CAD knowledge to draft designs for both wholesale and custom jewelry clients. What they love best about their work is that it doesn’t feel like work at all. Each day, they connect with gem dealers and clients from all over the globe and get to see images of clients wearing their jewelry on adventures. What a dynamic duo!
